About Nnamdi Nwankwo

Nnamdi Nwankwo is a Houston-based actor, singer, director, writer, and coach. A versatile performer, he has performed in various genres of performance like opera, musical theatre, stage plays, film, commercial, and voiceover.

Most recently, Nnamdi was at Paramount Theatre as Cinderella’s Father in “Into the Woods”.

Other recent engagements include his portrayal as “man in orange” in the world premiere of “For Colored Boyz on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown When Freedom Ain’t Enough” at the Fulton Theatre, “Once on this Island” at Town Hall Arts Center (for which he recieved a Henry Award nomination for Outstanding Actor), and the world premiere of “Elephant” at Benchmark Theatre and workshopping Intelligence, a new opera by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer, with Eklund Opera’s New Opera Workshop.

Nnamdi has made appearances with Boulder Opera as Schaunard in La Bohéme and Opera in the Heights in Houston in Die Zauberflöte. He has also made appearances with several Houston-based opera startups like Operativo Houston, and Rec Room Arts. As a soloist, he has made several appearances with Bach Society Houston.

As a director, Nnamdi will be directed the world premiere of Ricardo and Julia, a new play by Houston playwright, Nick Pinelli. He also served as the assistant director for Eklund Opera under the direction of Dr. Leigh Holman.

As a writer, Nnamdi collaborated as a librettist with composer Ben Morris on a new one act opera Perspective. This was workshopped and premiered at Eklund Opera’s New Opera Workshop.

Nnamdi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatrical Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder under the teaching of Dr. John Seesholtz.
